Speech Therapy for Children Philadelphia, PA

The Speechies provides speech therapy for children of all ages in the Philadephia, PA area. Offering an initial free phone consultation for members who sign-up for our newsletter. We also offer screening, complete comprehensive evaluations with a timely written report, and parent/caregiver consultation. Treatment sessions are typically 30-45 minutes in length, and a complete therapy plan will be provided to you prior to initiation of services, so that you can easily track progress. Additionally, we look to collaborate with other professionals involved in your loved one’s care, including teachers, other therapists, and physicians.

Check with your insurance provider regarding if your plan covers speech-language therapy. Unfortunately, few insurance companies reimburse parents for speech therapy to treat “developmental disorders” related to articulation or language in children. However, coverage is often approved for rehabilitative speech therapy (e.g. due to traumatic brain injury, or to treat congenitally related speech problems). Children

Introduction to Communication, Individual Parent Training with your baby, in your home (ages 6-18 months)

SESSION 1: Providing a “Language Rich Environment,” eliciting eye contact, and maximizing attention during play
SESSION 2: Using signs/gestures to foster communication
SESSION 3: Eliciting and encouraging vocal/verbal communication

Infant-Toddler Play Group, Play therapy with your child or Host a playgroup with 2-5 of your child’s friends (ages 9-36 months)

Individual play therapy with focus on enhancing language during play and communication OR
Themed play group targeting your choice of age group between 12-36 months, focus on vocabulary development, requesting, and social-emotional development with peers.

Adult

It can be overwhelming and scary when your parent, grandparent, brother, sister or loved one comes home from the hospital after a major event, like a stroke or a brain injury. You want to be able to take care of them in the best way possible, however sometimes not being able to communicate well can make that experience even more challenging.

The Speechies provides comprehensive evaluations, skilled treatment, family counseling and support, and collaboration with other professionals in an effort to address individual/family needs. We can assist in treating a variety of swallowing and communication issues resulting from stroke or head injury/surgery, neurologically-based speech and voice disorders, and cognitive-linguistic rehabilitation. Therapy is individual and sessions are 45-minutes in length.

Therapy is personalized to an individual’s needs, interests and hobbies, to make treatment more salient and relatable for the patient and family. Part of the treatment session will also focus on caregiver training, to help you – the caregiver, best take care of your loved one.

Our adult program includes evaluation and treatment in the following areas:

Aphasia (acquired language disorder, receptive and/or expressive)
Motor Speech Disorders, such as dysarthria/apraxia
Voice diorders, including Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT)
Alexia/agraphia (acquired reading and writing difficulties after a neurologicalevent, such as stroke)

Augmentative/alternative communication
Cognitive difficulties, such as memory, judgement, reasoning, safety awareness
Creating individualized organization tools (such as a memory book) for optimal success in daily tasks
Swallowing disorders

As a parent, wondering if your child is “on track” is a normal thought. It is important to know that all children develop at a different pace, and what is considered “typical development” is very widespread, especially in the early toddler years. We can provide you the resources and knowledge to better understand if your child is at risk for speech and language delays.
